Speculation regarding Swansea City captain Ashley Williams is growing stronger by the day.
The 28 year-old Welsh captain is rumored to be at the top of our defensive wish-list for the summer, also catching the attention of Liverpool and QPR.
The £8 million rated center back is believed to be the answer to our woeful back line and would definitely add some much needed muscle and leadership to the squad.
There's a murmur that Wenger has completely lost faith in both Vermaelen and Mertesacker, and could be reforming the Arsenal defense starting with Williams as the first replacement.
I think otherwise.
Yeah Vermaelen's been awful recently (harsh but true), ever since he was handed the armband there's been a rapid decline in his consistency and a bevy of schoolboy errors to add to his wrap-sheet. Maybe he can't handle the pressure? Give it to Jack Wilshire instead...
Mertesacker on the other hand has improved since last season, but Wenger's obnoxiously high-line has Per's 'Achilles heel' exploited every time (lack of speed). The boy runs like a wounded giraffe!
I believe we do have a good defense. The Belgian and the German are world class and with the emergence of Gibbs, Jenkinson and now the addition of Monreal we're exceptionally strong on paper.
If we reshuffle the formation, let Steve Bould do his goddamn job and sort them out tactically, then we'll be absolutely golden with the addition of someone like Ashley Williams. Can you imagine!
And going back, I don't think Arsene Wenger would ever just ditch Vermaelen or Mertesacker. Not for a second.
How about maybe reverting to 'five' at the back?
Three center backs and then utilize the speed of Gibbs and Jenkinson as wing-backs. Old-school!
Worth a try because this zonal crap isn't working. Leave the the zone-"D-fence" to the NBA. Soon they'll be serving corn-dogs and waving foam fingers at the Emirates.
Maybe that's 'Subliminal-Stan's' big ploy... Americanize everything!
